How many hotels are in Saudi Arabia? Reading regional and star-category data
What the total does—and does not—measure
This dataset contains 2,764 hotel and accommodation records. It is not an official national census, a list of licensed hotels, or a claim that every property operates today. The title question cannot be answered nationally from one research list alone. The useful result here is a transparent view of this directory’s coverage, with a known date, a reproducible counting method and the missing information left visible.
Regional concentration in the directory
Makkah Region accounts for 1,325 records, followed by Madinah with 418 and Riyadh with 372. Together, these three regions contain 2,115 records, or 76.5% of the dataset. Eastern Province adds 283 records. A region is not its capital city: Makkah Region includes cities such as Jeddah and Taif, so regional totals must not be presented as city totals.
Coverage beyond the largest regions
Asir has 79 records, Qassim 68, Jazan 65 and Tabuk 52. The remaining regional counts are Hail 27, Al Jouf 21, Al Bahah 20, Najran 19 and Northern Borders 15. Smaller counts describe coverage in this file, not a lack of hotels, weaker tourism demand or lower market quality. Comparing investment opportunities would require additional evidence on licences, rooms, occupancy, prices and the date each establishment was checked.
Star categories: most records are unspecified
Only 237 records have a star value in the source: 99 are listed as five-star, 49 as four-star, 55 as three-star, 26 as two-star and 8 as one-star. The other 2,527 records (91.4%) have no specified star value. “Unspecified” does not mean unlicensed, zero-star or lower quality. These are source labels, not star ratings awarded or verified by FUNDIQI.
From research to a bookable experience
Directory coverage and live booking inventory are separate. Existing city guides link to the current FUNDIQI catalog, where a hotel facility needs approved details, prices and availability before it can be booked. Adding a hotel through the form sends its details for review; it does not automatically publish a profile, activate offers or confirm a commercial agreement. Use the city guide for actual visit options rather than assuming every record in the regional count is available.
Source and methodology
Source: the owner-provided October 2026 hotel directory workbook. Figures are calculated from the 2,764 numbered rows in its master sheet only; regional tabs are copies and are not counted again. The workbook cites hotel directories, OpenStreetMap and manual chain research. FUNDIQI has not independently verified every establishment’s current operating status, licence or star classification. No duplicate rows were found using the combination of hotel name, city and region; this is not proof that every record is a unique licensed hotel.
